The operation of the laser is based on the phenomenon of selective photothermolysis. The laser light is absorbed by the hair follicle, which contains melanin. It is then converted into heat, which destroys the hair elements, causing permanent hair loss and destruction of the hair follicle. This phenomenon is most effective for dark hair in the phase of active growth.
